V8 Superdrive offer hands-on race experience courses and events.

Ranging from adrenaline-filled hotlaps, to self-drive V8s, through to tailored corporate race days our staff are experienced in all aspects of tuition and high performance driving and we have an enviable safety record.

Ever wanted to go flat tac without worrying about speeding tickets, or get your adrenaline fix?... well now you can, all under the safety and guidance of a professional instructor/diver.

V8 SuperDrive is located at Mike Pero Motorsport Park, 107 Hasketts Road, Christchurch, New Zealand. We are the South Island’s leading provider of V8 self drive and corporate day race experience courses and have been operating from the Mike Pero Motorsport Park for the last 12 years.

** Please note the vehicles are manual transmission so you will need to have some experience driving a manual**

Session Times

We offer a 12.15pm and 2.15pm sessions for driving packages on eligible Tuesdays and Thursdays (The only days we operate). sessions are generally run in groups of 7-8 people so please allow for this when selecting. NZV8 Touring Car Hot laps are held at 1pm followed by OZ Walkinshaw Touring Car Hot laps at 2pm.

Gift Vouchers purchased ON or After the 12th of March 2026 will have a 36 month redemable period. ALL vouchers purchased before 12th of March 2026 only have a 12 month redemable period. This is due to the Fair Trading Amendment Act 2024, this Legislation came into effect as of the 12th of March 2026.

Chris Hyde - Driver/Instructor/Owner

Chris Hyde is our head instructor and owner of V8 Superdrive.Chris has a wealth of experience as a professional driver over the years with a few titles under his belt which include: NZ Kart champ. RX7 Champ, Formula Ford and Formula 5000 Tasman Champion, along with a lot of other types of racing in NZ and overseas. He loves sharing his love for the sport to others and everyday is an adventure.

Brooke Day - Senior Administrator/ Ground Crew

Brooke is our Administrator, she plays an essential role at V8 SuperDrive. She not only looks after the needs of the instructors, she manages the drive day lists while getting you safely buckled up and ready for your experience. If you have any issues with vouchers etc., please don’t hesitate to call Brooke as she is lovely to deal with and is a valuable member of our team.

Blair Smith - Driver Instructor

Blair Smith is one of V8 SuperDrives highly experienced instructors. Blair has many years experience in motorsport and championships with Formula Ford, Formula Brabham and RX7 – not to mention Bathurst twice on the list ! Blair enjoys sharing his experiences and knowledge to give you the full experience of what it’s like to be a driver or passenger of one of our Race Prepared V8’s! Blairs been with us for many years now and we’re proud to have him on our team.

How do I buy a V8 Superdrive gift Voucher?

You can purchase a voucher for our V8 Superdrive experience directly from our website, and have your voucher emailed within a few minutes. Or alternatively come out to the track and purchase one off us direct at the raceshop.

Can I use a credit card?

You are welcome to pay for your V8 Superdrive experience with a credit card, as this is the quickest way for us to process your payment and send you your voucher. We accept most debit cards, Visa and Mastercard or direct bank deposits, we also now accept Humm (formerly Oxipay)

What do I need to bring with me on the day?

On the day of your V8 Superdrive experience, you need to be sure to bring with you your voucher, and sports shoes/trainers. No voucher, No drive.

What do I need to wear?

Something comfortable. We provide you with a racing suit on the day, balaclava and helmet. Again sport shoes/trainers as footwear.

Is there an age limit?

We are fairly flexible when it comes to age, the most important thing is safety, so you will need to be able to fit into our 5 point harness. We have catered to a large range of ages from around 7-8 years old right up to 106 years!!

What about a weight/ height limit?

As bodies are made of all shapes and sizes, it is hard for us to determine a maximum weight and height. If you have any concerns about this, feel free to come out to the track one day and we would be more than happy to do a trial run with you.

Can we bring friends to watch?

You are welcome to bring as many people along with you to watch your experience on the day as you like, however all spectators are required to observe the action from the designated viewpoints allocated by our staff.

How long does the day take?

We run two groups during the day. 12pm and 2.15pm, plus some Hotlaps over the day. We start with sign in at the office, then theory in the classroom. After that everyone does the x2 laps reconnaissance laps, then you get to drive. Most groups are about x8 in size and we run up to x3 vehicles at a time. So you should be done within 2-3 hours. In saying that there is a bit of waiting around over that time… but it’s worth the wait.

How early do I need to get there?

Just turn up 15 minutes before your due time of booking. 12pm booking = 11.45pm etc.

How do I book my voucher in?
